TWO LAWS

This is a Bible lesson showing the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Please let the Bible itself show the purpose of each and what is for us today.
READ: Exodus 19:1-8 1. 

Was the old testament an agreement made between God and the Nation of Israel?

2. Was it made when the Israelites were brought out of slavery in Egypt to Mt. Sinai?

3. Are the moral principles of the Ten Commandments found in the New Testament?

4. IF we didn't have the Old Testament would we be free to dishonor parents?

5. Did the Ten Commandments have certain punishments for the violators of those commandments?

 6. Did people living under the Old Testament have to carry out the punishments to violators of the commandments?

7. Were disobedient children who cursed and hit their parents stoned to death?

8. Were Israelites who worked on the Sabbath put to death?

10. If the Ten Commandments to Israel were still in force and applied to us, would we be sinning to gather sticks, kindle a fire, and work on the seventh day of the week?

  Notice that anyone under this law could not do these things.. But if we aren't an Israelite (Jewish) we are outside of this contract..even if it was still in effect. 

11. If the Old Testament were still in force, would it only apply to the Israelites?

 12. Does the Old Testament contain a prophecy of the New Testament?

13. Would it be new, different from the Old, under which all who know Him would have sins remembered no more?

14. Does this passage refer to the New, Better Covenant, then refers to Jeremiah's prophecy, making it clear that the giving of the new and better covenant is in fulfillment of the prophecy of Jeremiah?

  15. Are the first and second covenants in force at the same time?

16. Is Christ the mediator of a NEW testament?

A mediator is much like a lawyer representing us in a court facing a judge for the things we have done. It is through Him we can face God as our Judge..

 17. Was the purpose of the law (Old Testament) to lead them to Christ so they could be justified by faith?

18. Now that faith has come are we still under the supervision of the Law?

25. Does Jesus make possible the taking away of the sin of the world?

 In these verses we see that The Gentiles (those who weren't Jewish) were accepted as God's people when they became Christians as well as the Jews. Before; if you weren't a Jew you were without any hope of salvation.

26. Was the Old Testament abolished as a law for man when Jesus died on the cross?

 27. Does a man's will go in force AFTER he dies?

28.Was the New Testament of Jesus in force before He died?

 29. Are we under the New Testament today and not the Old Testament?

 If You answered NO read it again.  Do you see that that we do not keep the old law today because Christ abolished it and replaced it with a new and better Law-- the New Testament which is for all people not just the Israelites.. 
Many people today say that they keep the 10 commandments - but in reality they worship on the first day of the week and call it the Sabbath; they do not realize that they are obligated to carry out the punishments of the laws and the Old law is more than the 10 commandments- it is the book of Leviticus also. 
Why would anyone want to live under the old law when God has given us one which is so much better? This concludes the lesson. We hope you have learned something about the Bible from this --understanding how to use the Bible clears up a lot of confusion about it.
