A VISION FOR THE WAYNESBORO CHURCH OF CHRIST

God has called us as a church to “Go and make disciples.” In keeping with His promise to “arrange the members of the body, each one as He chooses” (1 Cor 12: 18), God has brought together in Waynesboro many talents, individuals, and opportunities in order to use the Waynesboro church to do GREAT things for the Kingdom. So . . . God has opened a door of opportunity. The challenge is this: Will we walk through that door?

The vision summarize on this page is our attempt to flesh out a plan for pursuing this mission . . . a plan that seems to match the unique time and circumstances we face.

A 5-Year Vision of the Waynesboro church of Christ:

  • We want to be a church that Goes and Makes Disciples and that transforms them into servants.
    • Those that are reached turn into those that are reaching others.
    • Those that are needy turn into those that are helping others.
    • Those that are taught turn into those that are teaching others.
  • We want to be a Spiritual Training Center for preparing kingdom servants
  • We want to be a Pillar of strength and a source of servants for other congregations


What does this look like?

  • A critical mass for developing leaders (about 350 members)
  • About ½ of our members are 1st generation Christians
  • Strong support of local, regional & global missions.

  • Adoption, Education, and Involvement
    • 5-year vision
      • Each new Christian embraced, mentored, matured, and serving others
      • All members growing into the image of Christ
      • All members using their gifts to further the mission to go and make disciples
    • First steps (next 12-18 months)
      • We Care and AfterCare (May, ’07 and beyond)
      • Expanded role for Agape groups (Fall ’07)

    • 5-year vision
      • A 24-7 workplace for training and ministry
      • A facilities planning team empowered to oversee short-term maintenance and long-term facilities planning and development
    • First steps (12-18 months)
      • Update long-term facilities plan (Dec 07)
      • Office expansion (Summer 07)
      • 2nd worship assembly (Jun 07)
  • Leadership
    • 5-year vision
      • A small group church
      • Expanded leadership team (more elders, deacons, staff)
      • Elders focused on shepherding people
    • First steps (12-18 months)
      • Add elders and deacons (late 07)
